Detroit Auto Show, NCM ZR1 Unveiling
Detroit Auto Show, NCM ZR1 Unveiling
December 31 1969 07:00:00 PM EST
Early January 26, 2008 approximately 200 corvette enthusiasts were boarding buses to the North American International Auto Show for the first public unveiling of the almighty ZR1. The National Corvette Museum group arrived at the Cobo Center and hastily moved their way to the entrance.

The NCM group were the only visitors there at the time. On the way through the automotive playground the NCM members were intermittently stopping to view what Dodge and Audi were offering and thought to themselves how sinister the new ZR1 is going to be.

In the back of the General Motors vicinity covered in a black cloth was the new King of the Hill, the ZR1. Standing beside the car were various Corvette engineers and managers which included Tom Peters, Kirk Bennian, Harlen Charles and Tom Wallace. Wallace teased the crowd with the a painfully slow unveiling of the ZR1 by inching the black cloth back, he spoke about the ZR1 and expressed how proud he was the Corvette was once again the King of the Hill. Other people who make the Corvette Possible spoke about the ZR1 for at least forty minutes.

The Cobo Center was now opening and a stampede of people came into the area to see the new ZR1. The National Corvette Museum’s accommodations and experience is to be remembered by many and envied by the rest.
